Treasures in Your Attic: Prints purchased in Paris
Dear Helaine and Joe: I have photographed two prints for your attention. They were purchased in Paris, France, in 1956 or 1957. Hopefully, you can tell me if they have any monetary value. I am thinking about reframing them but do not want to do something to devalue them. […]

Treasures in the Attic: Silhouettes tell an intriguing story
Dear Helaine and Joe,
I’ve done a little research on my pair of silhouettes. Although they don’t seem to have much value, I am interested in their history. Each is about 3 inches tall and wide with gilt hangers marked “Foster Bros. Boston.” There is also a paper label on the backs stating “published by Foster Bros. Arlington and Boston MA.” […]
Treasures: Damage to elegant centerpiece is a monetary value killer
We believe we have a “bride’s basket.” It came to us from my grandmother, who was married in 1929. A corner of the bowl was broken, and my grandmother took it to a glass repairman who made the other corners match. The base is marked “Pairpoint C5560” plus a diamond shape with a “P” inside. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. — J.B.B. […]

Dear Helaine and Joe:
I believe this frame to be tramp art, and while researching this 19-inch by 14-inch frame, I discovered that Helaine was a collector and appreciator of this kind of art. I live in Ontario, Quebec, Canada and found this piece in a second-hand store for $10. What can you tell me about it? […]

Treasures: Pottery company was well known for colorful cookie jars like these
DEAR HELAINE AND JOE: I am curious to know what you can tell me about this pair of cookie jars. I got them from my grandmother, and if I remember correctly, they were given to her by a pair of sisters who boarded with her, my mom and my uncle in Grand Island, Nebraska, during WWII. A friend tells me her family had the female and called it “Susie Cookie Jar.” I am trying to find four identical sets for my four children, but all I can find have different patterns. Can you help? […]
Treasures: Martingale was meant for a horse

Treasures: Platter has colorful history
Greetings: I would appreciate any information you might have on this colorful cow platter and its value. The marks on the back are not very good or distinguishable — it looks like a crown and a blue stamp. There are some impressed letters that appear to be “DERD.” It is approximately 18 by 15 inches. It has four holes on the back for hanging, and we have found no initials or name on the front. My husband suggests there is a “Spanish cowboy” in the background. […]
